Man-made structures seen from space

On Bahrain's South coast, the KOMPSAT-2 satellite spotted spectacular islands emerging from the Persian Gulf.

About 34 million m3 of sand was dredged from the sea bottom to create 13 distinct artificial islands: 6 lagoon islands, 5 petal islands, a center island and a crescent-shaped island still connected to the land.

A circular highway and 12 bridges link the islands together and to the main land. The islands will be bordered by beaches and filled with luxuriuous hotels and villas.

Question : How can satellites monitor land use change ?
