Case study Tenerife (4/8)
Vegetation
The spatial distribution of the vegetation of Tenerife is characterized by various altitudinal zones and the exposure of the slopes. The vegetation zoning is depicted in the figure. Starting with a subtropical semi-desert on the shores of the island, it is followed by a vegetation of succulent-panache formation. In the higher north of the island, there is partly degraded vegetation such as erica scrub. In the south over the laurel forest the tradewind clouds condense. Evergreen oine forest can be found on slopes that are inclined to the south and above the laurel forest on northward exposed slopes. High mountain scrub begins at 2,500 m (Naumann 2008).
