Constructing scattergrams
Subjects:
MathematicsObjectives:
In this exercise you can learn
- how to plot multidimensional frequency distribution scattergrams.
Prerequisite:
- The Frequency Distribution
- The Relative Frequency Distribution
- Measures of Value
- Measures of Spread
- The Multi-Dimensional Frequency Distribution
Materials:
- Microsoft Excel or similar software
- Data for 30 throws of a dice
- Histogram data for the Landsat TM image of the Skagen Area, Denmark (Text file)
Time needed:
1 – 2 school lessons, depending on how detailed you want to discuss the basing principles.
Procedure:
- Create histograms for each band, compute the mean and Standard Deviation for each Band and plot these on your histograms.
- Now create scattergrams for each pair of the four wavebands.
- With seven bands of data, how many scattergrams can you construct?
Answer to question (No. 3):
(7·6)/(2·1)
