Supplement 2.20: Absorbance and Fluorescence of Oils (1/2)
Data Catalogue of Optical Spectra of Oils
Purpose of this Catalogue of Optical Spectra of Oils is to provide a tool for identifying oils in aquatic environments by means of fluorescence spectroscopy. The catalogue includes crude oils, refined products, and a few vegetable oils.
A mouse click on an oil name in the table below opens a new page which includes
- physical and chemical data of the oil
- instruments and instrumental settings used for optical measurements
-
a table which includes
a) spectral absorption coefficients given in 1/μm
b) spectral fluorescence emission intensities measured at several excitation wavelengths, relative to Nigerian Light Crude Oil as a reference substance - a graph showing the numerical data as line drawings, when clicking on diagram at the bottom of the page.
On page 2 of this supplement the methods of measuring absorption and fluorescence emission spectra are documented, including calibration procedures,
This catalogue is an update of a first version published in printed form by the University of Oldenburg in January 1992, authors: Theo Hengstermann and Rainer Reuter.
