Why do we travel at all?

Task: Why do we travel?
List reasons as to why people choose to travel.

Travel always includes the abandonment of familiar surroundings and the entrance into another, more or less unknown living environment.

"Were there no geographical differences between place and place, tourism would not exist" (Robinson 1976). The spatial diversity and differentiation between places form a basic principle of tourism as well as of Geography in general.

 

The focus of interest in leisure and tourism geography is, besides a spatially oriented dimension, a behavioural one. It may be tourist, a supplier for a touristic company or a worker in a public institution, which deals with regional-economic aspects of leisure and tourism.
